Graduated necklace: Triton swirl

This necklace is made up of 13 graduated swirling beads. The base colour is black, but a twisted cane of ivory and  reactive silver glass has been wound over the top, then encased in clear glass. Reactive silver glass has a  high silver content that, when heated in a low oxygen flame, allows the silver oxide to give up its oxygen, leaving behind a thin layer of metallic silver that creates a variety of effects. In this instance the silver glass has produced mostly greens, but there are some blues and terracottas, and there is a subtle shimmer to the beads, reminiscent of paua shell.
The beads are linked together using 1mm Sterling silver wire and each bead is bracketed by my handmade sterling silver bead caps. The necklace has been finished off with a stunning sterling silver chain in a Figaro Belcher style.
The overall length of the necklace is approximately 56cm.
