Graduated necklace: Carnival

This necklace is made up of 13 graduated lampwork beads, ranging in size from 2cm down to 0.75cm in diameter. The core of each bead is silver dichroic glass that has been encased in a pale blue transparent glass with delicate trails of red and yellow.

Dichroic glass is created by stacking layers of metal oxides, which can give the glass shifting colours depending on the angle of view. In this instance it adds a subtle silvery blue shimmer to the inside of the bead.

The beads are framed with handmade beadcaps, cut from blue and silver, geometric-patterned anodized aluminium sheet. They are wired with 1mm sterling silver wire, joined by sterling jump rings that have been soldered closed for extra strength. The necklace is finished with sterling silver figaro belcher chain which fastens with a lobster clasp.
