The core of these beads is made using a single rod of reactive silver glass, which has then been encased in clear glass.
Reactive silver glass has a high silver content that, when heated in a low oxygen (or reduction) flame, allows the silver oxide to give up its oxygen, leaving behind a thin layer of metallic silver that creates a variety of effects. The colour of the original rod is a transparent purple, but after reduction it produces a variety of colours ranging from ivory and yellow through to various shades of blue and purple.
The beads have been wired onto 1mm sterling silver wire, which has been coiled around the top of each bead to form a wire spiral bead cap. The wired beads are joined with 5mm sterling silver split rings, and the necklace is finished off with an attractive sterling silver figaro belcher chain with parrot clasp.
The overall length of the necklace is approximately 58cm.
